Whitecourt Skating Club Programs

 

CANSkate  $250

Offered in ten week increments twice per skating year (October to December and January to March).  Following Skate Canada's CANSkate Curriculum, for stages 1 - 4, this program is intended to be accessible by beginners ages 4 and up. Skaters in this program require a non-expired, CSA approved helmet.

Intro-to Figure-Skating $TBD (plus fundraising and volunteer commitments)

For skaters who have completed the necessary outcomes of the CANSkate program and are ready to transition into figure skating, this program offers the perfect next step. Skaters will continue developing their skills with a focus on Stages 2 and 3 of Skate Canada's CANSkate Curriculum while also being introduced to the fundamentals of figure skating. The program runs twice per week from October to March. Helmets are still required at this level. Prior approval from the Head Coach is required before enrolling.

PrePrimary  $TBD (plus fundraising and volunteer commitments)

Skaters who have achieved the necessary outcomes from our CANSkate program can continue to grow their skills in a figure skating-focused environment. Running from October to March, this program is offered twice per week, with an optional third day. The focus is on Stages 4 and 5 of  Skate Canada's CANskate Curriculum  ,with continued development of balance, control, and agility. Skaters are still required to wear a CSA-approved helmet. Prior to enrolling, approval from the Head Coach is required.

Primary  $TBD (plus fundraising and volunteer commitments)

Skaters who have achieved the outcomes in Pre-Primary are able to extend their skills and build a foundation for figure skating. Following Skate Canada's CANskate Curriculm this program focuses on stage 6 and is intended to be the stepping stone to our STARSkate programs. This is the transition for skaters to no longer wear their helmet. The program runs three times per week from October to March with one off-ice jumping session per week as well. Prior to enrolling in this program, please ensure the approval of the Head Coach.

Junior STARSkate  $TBD (plus fundraising and volunteer commitments)

As skaters build confidence in their figure skating skills from Primary, our STARSkate program starts to build on Skate Canada's STARSkate Curriculum. Intended for the beginning figure skater, this program focuses on STAR 1 programming of freeskate,skills and dance. It runs from October to March, three times per week with one off-ice jumping session per week as well. Prior to enrolling in this program, please ensure the approval of the Head Coach.

STAR 2 - 4 U12 $TBD (plus monthly coaching fees, fundraising, and volunteer commitments)

As skaters complete their STAR 1 requirements, they will progress through the various STAR levels and continue to explore the four disciplines. This program program continues to build on Skate Canada's STARSkate Curriculum and four days per week from October to March, including on-ice skating, off-ice jumping, and dryland training. Prior to enrolling in this program, please ensure the approval of the Head Coach.

STAR 4 - Gold 13O  $TBD (plus monthly coaching fees, fundraising, and volunteer commitments)

As skaters surpass their STAR 3 requirements and build up the strength and power in the four disciplines, this program program continues to build on Skate Canada's STARSkate Curriculum and four days per week from October to March, including on-ice skating, off-ice jumping, and dryland training. Prior to enrolling in this program, please ensure the approval of the Head Coach.

STARSkate PreAcademy  $TBD

In addition to STAR 2 - Gold programming, this add-on is designed for the figure skater who wishes for more in their toolbox. With one morning class and one evening off-ice dance class, skaters will have the opportunity to focus as a group on enhancing the power of their stroking, the smoothness of their edges, the quality of their turns, the rhythm of their jumps, the nuances of their spins, and the synchronization of working as a team. Prior to enrolling in this program, please ensure the approval of the Head Coach.

STARSkate Academy  $TBD

In addition to STAR 2 - Gold programming, this add-on is designed for the enthusiastic figure skater who wishes to for additional skills classes to to be part of their figure skating repertoire. With two morning classes and one evening off-ice dance class, skaters will have the opportunity to focus as a group on enhancing the power of their stroking, the smoothness of their edges, the quality of their turns, the rhythm of their jumps, the nuances of their spins, and the synchronization of working as a team. Prior to enrolling in this program, please ensure the approval of the Head Coach.

 

Fall Skate/Spring Skate

Intro-to-Figure Skating,Pre-Primary, Primary, Junior STARSkate, STAR 2 - 4 12U, STAR 4 - Gold 13O, STARSkate PreAcademy, and STARSkate Academy may have the opportunity to extend their skating season in September and/or April. Times per week are dependent upon registration as these programs may be grouped together to maximize both ice and coaching time.
